Random thought about the universe

Suppose the universe is just a big simulation being run by superintelligent beings on a huge computer. What if quantum mechanics is essentially a compression artefact?

A lot of the wierd effects you get come from the fact that elementary particles are indistinguishable. Maybe its because the aliens didn't get quite enough grant money to buy the top of the range computer with enough memory?

I don't know anything about quantum mechanics, but I do know that Zaphod Beeblebrox discovered that the earth was in fact a gigantic computer simulation run by white mice.

Sorry Alex, I'm quite sure that the plank-scale-as-pixel-size-of-giant-computer has been said before - in fact I'm pretty sure you and I talked about it about 10 years ago while drunk.

That's not quite what I'm talking about, though we probably did discuss that over a few beers. I'm making no claims to originality, but I'm thinking along more analogue than digital lines, spacetime-wise.
